Role summary/purpose of job

The Data Governance Analyst is experienced in managing data assets and is responsible for managing and maintaining the organisation’s Global Data Catalogue, ensuring adherence to data governance policies and standards. This role supports the Data Operations Manager in enhancing data quality, privacy, and compliance, and streamlining data management processes using the Collibra tool. A key purpose of this role is to promote effective data stewardship, introduce best practice recommendations, and drive the organisation’s data governance strategy.

Function Overview

A Data Governance Analyst ensures that an organisation’s data is accurately catalogued, secure, and compliant with regulatory standards. This role involves managing data governance policies, enhancing data quality, and supporting data privacy initiatives, often using Collibra to maintain a Global Data Catalogue (GDC) and streamline data management processes.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Support the Data Operations Manager with managing the Global Data Catalogue

  • Define and manage data asset security classifications, ensuring consistent categorisation and protection measures, based on the classification of Personally Identifiable Information (PII), Special Category PII, and Commercially Sensitive data in collaboration with the Data Privacy Team.

  • Formulate and enforce data policies, standards, and procedures to ensure effective data management and compliance across the organisation.

  • Support the team with creating workflows in the catalogue.

  • Work closely with global data catalog (GDC) application users (data owners and data stewards) to oversee the creation, control, and maintenance of metadata assets.

  • Collaborate with Data Office leaders, Data Privacy Team, strategic partners and stakeholders across the business

  • Ensure responsible ownership, active stewardship, and compliant consumption of the firm’s data assets.

  • Collaborate with the firm’s Data Privacy Team to ensure the firm’s data governance policies are robust enough to comply with relevant regulations and flexible enough to empower the firm’s digital transformation.

  • Collaborate with Information Security Group (ISG) to oversee compliance with internal and external data security standards, tests, and protocols.

  • Promote best practice use of the GDC tool as a super user.

Key Requirements

Essential

  • 3-5 years' experience in a Data Governance, Data Management, or similar role

  • Experience with data cataloguing

  • Strong understanding of data management, governance, compliance, data quality, metadata, profiling and analysis

  • An understanding of Physical, Logical, and Conceptual Data Models

  • Familiarity with data management best practices, tools, and technologies

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment

  • Familiarity with GDPR, CCPA, and global distinctions between data protection regulations.

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders

Desirable

  • Experience with Collibra

  • Highly organized, proactive, and detail oriented.

  • Knowledge of data-related regulatory requirements

  • Experience transferring data asset management techniques to business users
